This is on one of my Hollyhocks. Does anyone know what it is? It's munching the leaves but wanted to check before I squish him!
Bug ID Please!
This is a caterpillar of a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae (fritillaries, satyrs, admirals, crescents, mourning cloak, etc.); unless it is doing serious damage, I would let it live...
Where can I find pictures of caterpillars to compare to? I tried doing a bug search and couldn't find any to compare my little guy to...
See http://tinyurl.com/4bdxh4 for one example - it is by no means comprehensive, but may be a good starting point. It is difficult to search for relevant images unless you already have a good idea as to which major group your specimen belongs.
That is a great link.. Thank you.. I think it's a Mourning Cloak.. I didn't see as much red on it but everything else was identical.
