Can I divide a canna bought in a pot now?

I bought 2 pots of Tropicanna cannas today. Each one has 2 plants in the pot. Can I separate these and plant them in the ground in different places or will that hurt the cannas? Would they be easy to separate if that is okay to do? I have never grow a canna before.

i would say yes.. you can divide cannas from what I understand anytime, but its best spring and fall.. I'm in the same zone as you and I broke one of mine apart the other day before planting.. They are very easy to separate, you just have to make sure theres at least a few eyes on each piece..

You should be able to easily divide them now with no problems.
Keep well watered and add a little fertilizer to help them establish.
