Siberian Iris Information needed

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Can anyone help me to find the height of Blue King? I don't want a range of 24" - 36" but a closer actual from someone growing it.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't grow it Mittsy, but I am familiar with it. The true Blue King was a collected variety and introduced by Barr in 1902. It is short, under 30" with pendant falls, and very grasslike foliage.

The iris currently being sold as Blue King, is being sold by places like Brecks, Easy To Grow Bulbs, etc., and is not the old registered variety, and is just a name stuck on any old blue siberian.

Here's a picture of the real Blue King from 1902

Here's a pic of the stock photo from some wholesaler for the siberian that's currently being sold as Blue King. But unless you have the origional, you could have anything. This is not registered, and is not a true named siberian iris.

It appears that might be the origional one. Is it short? Do the falls fall, or are they always straight out?

They fall. 18" tall, some have 3 branches. Two buds together, when first one is done blooming, the second one right next to it opens. I've had these for 40+ years.
