Black bug eggs

Rolesville, NC(Zone 7b)

My co-worker has these black eggs on the leaves of his Okame Cherry but they've already hatched and he can't find any insects on the tree. I was hoping someone still might be able to tell us what kind of insect they produced.

I'm quite familiar with aphids and I'm pretty sure they give birth to live young. These are definitely egg cases. But thanks for the suggestion.

Have you checked with your county agricultural extension office? - See http://wake.ces.ncsu.edu/
These offices usually are a good resource when dealing with most home/yard/garden pest problems.

I realize this is an old post but I found the very same thing on my tree and put the leaf in a container with a lid. It's some kind of cherry tree, but we do not eat them, they are hard and not edible. Today, in the container I found little tiny black flies have hatched. I have not removed the lid to inspect them but more searching leads me to believe they might be a type of fruit fly. Still wanting to learn more, please connect if you get this message plantfreak78. i can send a photo when I have more time but they are so small and in plastic container all you see is black dots swiftly crawling round the lid.
