What is this plant?

Lincoln, CA(Zone 9b)

When our house was built the developer planted these shrubs (called them Euonymus) in our front yard. Unfortunately, that was the only identification given to them. They are shrub form and about 4 foot tall. The leaves are glossy around 3 inches long.

From looking at pictures on the Internet, I'm not sure if they are Euonymus.

Right now I'm trying to find out about pruning them. The branches has grown quite long and they look healthy. But they are a little large. It is now May and we live in Northern California.

In the picture, ignore the pink flowers (that's from the Oleander in the background)

You posted this once already - and not that long ago if I can remember it (!).

Can you post additional images? Maybe closer views of the leaves, buds, maybe flowering by now?

Here is a close up showing the leaves better.

Looks like some insects like to chew on them

Hey, is that a red bloom I see in there?

Have a look here. Did I see a small pale fruit in your pic?

I think you've got it raisedbedbob. Leaves look right, height, etc.

That sounds like you have it right.

It does have flower buds right now but they don't usually develop. Maybe this year.

When is the best time to prune? I'd like to do it now as it is about 5 foot tall and growing!

You can cut those monsters anytime, anywhere and they will grow back. beleive me, I have twenty years and fifty feet of experience with that.
