Zinnia Questions - Please Help!

Nashville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hi Everyone -

I planted zinnia seeds in jiffy pots a couple of weeks ago, and I was wondering:

1) How should they look before they are ready to plant in the ground?

2) I've read that some pinch the plant back for a more bushy habit and for more flowers...how tall should the plant be before doing so, and where exactly do
I pinch them?

3) I'm in Nashville, TN - with all the major flooding we've had and the ongoing rains - the ground is always soaked. Is it safe to plant in the ground even when
the ground is very wet?

Thank you for any advice you have to offer!

1.In your zone, I'd say plant them when big enough for you to handle. Probably a couple of true leaves. You certainly should be well past last frost in your zone.

2. I'm no expert but I usually pinch when they're a few inches, maybe 3" tall. It does make for fuller plants but probably will delay bloom by a week or so.

3.Depends on your soil. If you dig in clay while very wet you get clods of muck now, hard compressed soil later. Best to give it time to drain.
