ID help: unknown Clematis

Iowa City, IA

So... last November, I adopted a pitiful little lump of dirt and twigs from a local nursery's bargain bin. No labels but I popped it in the ground (a few days before we got a half foot of snow). It is now blooming its little heart out... but I still have no clue what it is. Does anyone recognize this clematis? The colors are fairly accurate-- it's sort of a purply pink with petals that are darker on the edges and lighter toward the center.

Welcome to Dave's Garden!

This one comes really close - see what you think:

Thanks! I checked the web site you sent. Venosa Violacea looks much more deep purple to violet. Mine is on the pink to lavender side of the spectrum. It looks a bit like Malaya Garnet, but the colors are reversed. Also, mine blooming right now--- May in zone 5a, whereas VV suggests July-August blooms. Not that I'm complaining!

I'm sure the experts will come along and identify it for you. Good luck!

It looks like "Pink Champagne" aka "Kakio" to me...Jeanne
