Poppy season in full swing !!!

Pontotoc, MS(Zone 7b)

Hope I don't hog the forum with my photos. If I do, someone just tell me to shut up !I didn't have any poppies last year as I had moved and didn't have much of a garden, so this is my first year to have poppies at my new house. Sorry to say I only have reds and pinks , no lavenders.

my mom makes fun of me because I LOVE to take photos of "naked" poppies. This one is just half naked

There is so much beauty in the single poppies !

my "poppy garden" --- I had mostly reds in this first bed and now mostly pinks in the bed to the left of the red bed. Of course these are actually daylily beds and I have so many poppies that I have worried about them smothering out my daylilies. I bet I have pulled up an easy 200 plants before they even bloomed !!!! I didn't realize I put out so many seeds !!!

I only have the old orange poppy blooming at the moment. Will have more a little later.
This came from my mom and who knows where she got it!

corgimom! your [poppies are wonderful. I love the pic of them behind the fence.
I remember what a thrill it was to move and see a new garden bloom for the firdt time.
Our plants are just bitties 4 leaves right now, so yours are a treat.

irisluvr - the orange ones are beautiful !!! Those must be perennial ones. ( I don't "know" poppies - I just grow a few.)

ge1836 - thanks -- mine are almost finished. We got 5" of rain yesterday - downpours- and it beat my poppies to death !! Sure made more "naked" ones in my garden :) Just think , when mine are finished and pulled up, you will have beautiful blooms for us southern folks to envy !

Corgimom - great photos. I love the fence shot!

most of my reds are gone. All of my photos are beginning to look alike.(guess that is why I love daylilies !) and I promise you these are different flowers. I would love to pull them all up now so my daylilies will get plenty of sleep but it will be some time yet before they are ready to be pulled up.

I took some pics with a black background so the poppies would show up a little better (they don't need much help - they shine across the yard being chin tall !)

Here are a few new photos

There is a variety named peony poppy.
I am waiting for an unnamed OP from a red collection pak of 4.It might open today the buds are just showing red where they split.
We are due for cold and rain so might take longer.

Corgimom, love your poppies! All of mine are volunteers this year, so I get a surprise or two every day!

Not sure what poppy this is ... it's a mutant of some kind I think!

From whom do you buy your poppy seeds?

Palo Alto, CA(Zone 9a)

Pirl, Select Seeds

www.selectseeds.com

They have a wonderful selection of all kinds of poppies ... as well as sweetpeas ... well, everything! They specialize in heirloom varieties.

And, you can save your seeds then from year to year, or simply let the poppies self-sow, which is what I've done this year.

Thank you very much!

nice to see this years crop.
We just have bitties here in the east.
I grew Heirloom "Flemish Antique" last year.
It was in an area where I dug to plant lily bulbs so there probably wont be any poppies this year.
