Fungus (?) on Pecan limb

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Found this gelatinous growth on a limb that had fallen from a pecan tree. I think what ever it is grew after the limb was on the ground, as I see no sign of it anywhere else on the tree. Can anyone I.D. this?

Looks like Auricularia - a common decay fungus on dead wood.

Thanks...I'll look it up!

Yes, looks like Auricularia auricula, Wood Ear.

They are edible; dried & ground to a powder they made a good soup thickener.

Actually, they are "toast" now! I wanted to show them to my grandson, and by the time I posted for the ID to make sure they weren't poisonous...they shriveled up and were almost gone. I did keep the limb in the shade until yesterday to see if they'd reappear, but as they didn't...I tossed the limb over the fence into the greenbelt.
They did look exactly like "jelly ears'' when I looked them up!
