IT WORKED Growing Hippeastrum outdoors in Charlotte

Waxhaw (Charlotte), NC(Zone 7b)

Both hippeastrum which I planted last fall outdoors in our flowerbed has poked through the mulch. Both have leaves AND a flower scape each... I am so excited....they survived winter and is growing (I like zone 7b so much better than my zone 6 NJ)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Congratulations! :-)

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

nice! it's so much more fun to garden in the Carolinas - I grew up in the mountains of NY so I'm still like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to gardening down here!! woohooo!

Raleigh, NC

I've got a row of them on them beside my house, planted by a previous occupant. They are fairly protected, being up against the house and with a row of trees about 12 ft in front of them, but it is the north side of the house. And they keep growing--five years now--who would of thought? Glad yours made it, too. Reminds me of how Elizabeth Lawrence, the garden writer, just kept trying things in her Charlotte garden. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
