knitting teddy bears for red cross

here in australia we have a lot of volunteers knitting teddy bears to give to kids etc when they come to hospital, or in other emergency situations.
I was wondering if the red cross has a similar project in the US. My co ordinator says her group has dome about 37000 bears.
