Can someone tell me when to prune camellias? and when to fertilize them? I am not talking about the fall-blooming type---but the winter blooming variety. I live in zone 7b in Mississippi. I have had very few blooms on mine----so, I need advice.

Need camellia help
Hi Shirleyd,
I read that it is best to wait until your camellia is through blooming to prune. As for fertilizing, this is what I also read:
'Many homeowners over-fertilize their camellias. Its best to not fertilize the first growing season or to apply a light application of cotton seed meal or a slow release fertilizer. Over fertilization in future years will result in a loose open growth habit that spoils the natural compact appearance of camellias. Apply 8 to 16 ounces of cotton seed meal per plant.'
I hope this helps!
Pam
