My husband just went out and bought 4 bags of pellets to keep the voles away. After he put it down he read that in 4 days another application is needed. The bags cost ~ 10 dollars each! This same company sells ground 'thumpers' for the same purpose. Despite my objection - he went out and bought four more bags. I could have bought a beautiful tree for the garden that wouldn't care if a vole or two burrowed nearby. I suggested chewing gum down the hole -- I figured if he wanted to try something that would fail at least the gum is cheaper.

Our cat seems to do a pretty good job of keeping the voles in their place...
Yes, I bet. I wouldn't want a cat mad at me. But he doesn't want them in their place....their place is in tunnels under his grass. (grin)
If you live in a rural area, you might try puting a owl house up. Maybe one might volunteer to take care of you vole problem for you. http://www.owlpages.com/
