Longview, TX

I live in zone 7b-8a...Im helping start a youth project for landscaping at our church here. We have many pine trees which makes a great place for ferns, and hostas. If anyone would like to contribute it would be wonderful.

Hello Kelly, that's a marvelous idea. I would like to help.

Does anyone know which hostas would do well in TX weather? That would help in deciding which hosta. to send.

I know these are supposed to be great...they work in Tyler which is 30min away. These were tested as being superior by the Master Gardeners. Blue Angel, Blue Cadet, Sugar N' Cream, So Sweet, Royal Standard, and Albo-Marginita. These were from a 98 test. Here is a link for another test('99) that has more info. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/county/smith/hosta/hosta99results.html

I know the Blue Cadet and Blue Angel are georgeous there....I have been to the the idea garden where they test these hostas. They are sent free there for the MG to test. They have also tested other things such as Zoysia grass, and are planting tons of varieties of Jap Maples.
You ought to read this if you live in heat, and humidity. These are the only varieties tried so far. Others will be tested as they are given to the testing garden.

Kelly333 I was surprised to see the line up of hostas in the test as I live in north fl. I will use the guide lines to tell me what to buy next spring and check the 35 varieties I have as this is our first year with hostas in the heat.
