Wanted Plant Donation

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

We're looking for a donation of a plant to be used as a prize for the Newbie Seeds Thread. Arejay (Robin) runs contests periodically to get newbies to search plant files. The plant can be anything, bulbs, corms, rhizomes, anything you have. If you'd like to donate please post here and you'll be contacted by Robin. Don't post what you're offering, she may want to keep it a surprise.

Thank You Mittsy,
the scrambles are always so much fun!! Everyone loves Latin right? For those of you that have never seen one, here is a link to an older one. They are great for all of us old or new makes our brains work .....
Thank You in advance,
Robin
It is in the second post http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1002208/

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Does the plant have to be a specific size?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Not at all starlight. The only thing the plant has to be is able to be listed with the Latin name and searched and found with plant files.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Ok, I have some things that might be a challenge for your scramble. : ) ( has evil grin thinking and hoping it will be challenging ) LOL It may be a few weeks though as I have to make sure they gonan wake up.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Ok Starlight that is great dmail me with the info ok? Thank You

Think Spring! It would be really nice if we could get an offer or two to make this an on going thing. Would anyone else have some seeds started where they might be able to share a seedling a few weeks from now?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh Mittsy that is a great idea!! We are all starting seedlings now arent we? Maybe we many of us could start just one more seedlings to keep the newbies working the Latin files and learning the forums. Maybe there are people from the different forums that we have not heard from that want to help raise some specialists!! Educated gardens are like gifts from tomorrow. We love it when someone knows something about a plant that we are trying to understand and they can direct us to the vendors, or the plant file or the thread where everyone is raising what we are hungry to learn about....

Blackshear, GA

Hi Mittsy,
I will have something I could share. Just let me know when you need it and I will find something.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Great Xeramtheum thank you!! If you know what it will be let me know in a dmail so I can get the info together ok?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Robin - - why not make this one truly evil?   LOL!

have the hunt involve the plant's synonymous botanical name.
for instance, if one of the plant's common names was the Candlebush plant, it has the botanical classification (genus, species) of Senna alata but it has several synonymous names:

Cassia alata
Cassia bracteata
Cassia herpetica
or more devilishly . . .
Herpetica alata

ref:   http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/371/

The newbie lesson being that just as plants may have more than one common name they also can be referenced by more than one latinized botanical name.

JMTCW - YMMV . . .

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I'm trying cassia in zone 6b this year. Will have to wait til next year to see if it survives, but am looking forward to trying this interesting and beautiful plant.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I love the cassia .. goes from seed to bloom in one season - mine got about 8 feet tall. They were watered regularly and fed every 2 weeks.

Thank you so much to all of you with the seedling offers.

I am babysitting at my daughter's house in Vero Beach .It is very sad to see all the dead tropicals. We all try to push the envelope as far as we can. Well we enjoyed them for 10 to 12 years, now we know what will really survive in our zones. I'm going to bring her some more Banana pups, next time I come down. Another Avocado, too.

If anyone has Lemon Basil started I would really like a seedling. Can trade for Pineapple mint or Chocolate mint. Dmail me, please.
