iris organizing

Santa Ynez, CA

Does anyone has any suggestions about a good program for cataloging iris on the computer, one person said Plantstep is excellent
however not Mac laptop friendly I am afraid. I looked into it and it would cost me over $200. just to get windows and another thing I would have to have in order to put Plantstep on my mac, thought I would see if anyone has any great ideas, thanks Marie

Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle) has an office suite that functions similar to Microsoft Office, and it is free. Contained in it is a spreadsheet --similar to Excel, a word processor similar to Microsoft Word, a database similar to Access, and a presentation program similar to Powerpoint. It can be downloaded from:
http://www.openoffice.org/
A little exploration on this web site will reveal the different versions that can be downloaded for various Mac configurations.
I hope this helps.
I use Windows, and have all my irises cataloged in Excel. I have looked at another program that can be downloaded from:
http://www.janett.net/
called Irises Version 2.4. I have glanced at this program, but I have too much time invested in the Excel spreadsheet, Autocad for bed layout mapping, and Photoshop CS4 to make a change. I'm not sure whether this program can be run on a Mac.

I have been using FileMaker for a decade and love it. It does things that you could never do in Excel. It's more expensive than Plantstep, but its new little brother Bento might not be a bad choice to run on your Mac. http://www.filemaker.com/products/bento/?nav=products-bento

I use OpenOffice 3.1 on my PC, and it works fine. I save all the data in Excel format.

the problem for me is the Mac, there are certain things that you just can't use and after talking to the apple people again, wow, it will be hard to find something that will work.....
