Fabric protection

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I bet you all may have some input for me. I'm recovering my dining chairs in cotton fabric and I want to give them some sort of stain protection. I've used Scotchgard before but it's been years and I thought maybe there had been improvements. Anyone have ideas?

These chairs won't get heavy use. We probably use them a few times a year. (We're counter-sitters.) ;-)
