Spent hours getting update, now can't find to install

I spent hours (dial-up) getting the upgrade to ie 8, needed another hotfix thingie, so that window closed. I installed the hotfix update, now can't find ie 8 to install. How do I finish installing ie 8?
I only need it so facebook will work. All of a sudden nothing works there either.

I feel like a dummy. I'm good with using things like word and excel, but that's about it!
