I can't find a review for Gebhart Greenhouses, a coleus specialist in northern Indiana. They offer lots of coleus. I found their descriptions helpful, although the photos aren't as good as Rosy Dawn's. Anyone ever order from Gebhart's?

I have come close to ordering from them.
Three feedback reviews, all positive and glowing. I might try a small order after ordering the bulk of my new coleus from Rosy Dawn (since that will be a special classified offer for us DG'ers). Gebhart does offer a few interesting ones that Rosy Dawn doesn't list.
I havnt heard anything negative about them.
I ordered about 20 from him last fall, and some He was out of-so He sent me a bunch others for free. Always had good luck from him.
I also e-mail him from time to time and He always answers. Has been extremely helpful to me.
There's nothing like great customer service. What I wouldn't give for a greenhouse. How beautiful!
I have ordered from Gebharts several times over the last 5 years and the order was always perfect.
I try and split my purchases - I think it helps to spread the cash around, encourages competition and helps keep the diversity in the plants available.

I've ordered ten coleus varieties from Gebhart's Greenhouse. These varieties are not available at Rosy Dawn, so I thought I'd try them out since these varieties are larger ones I want to make into standards. One surprise with Gebhart's is that although they state on the info page about ordering and shipping that there is no shipping charge, when I placed my order online, a "packing charge" of $10 was added. The info says there will be a packing charge of $8 on orders under 10 plants, so I assumed there would be NO charge on my order. I know that Rosy Dawn charges a flat $10 shipping charge. I hope that includes packing. (?)

Interesting. RD has no "packing" charge, but a $10 flat shipping charge. Gebhart's has no "shipping" charge, but a $10 flat packing charge. Guess it's six of one and a half-dozen of the other. At least Rosy Dawn is giving us a good break in Classified.
I am not sure this is the same deal they gave us last year.
They have a limit of the time for the classified.Jan 31 is the order deadline.

The prices havnt changed.They run a pretty tight ship there/I love the efficient business part.
I ordered from Gebhart's in October and was very pleased with the result. They sent me several free ones. All the plants were nicely wrapped in cardboard cylinders and arrived quickly and in very good condition. I got 'Alabama Sunset' among several others, and it looks beautiful.
I participated in a Gebhart's co-op last spring. I got absolutely beautiful plants, healthy with no critters. They have grown well.
The only caution is to call your Credit Card info in to Mrs Gebhart. I submitted 2 orders, one for me and one for a friend. I used 2 different Debit Cards. In a short time both accounts were overdrawn and it took some time to get all that straight.
I closed one account and got a new # for the other. They refused to believe it was happening from their site. That's the only place that has ever had both of my account DC numbers.
I love their coleus and will order again. I will only pay with a prepaid CC the next time.

When I first became obsessed with Coleus, Gebhart's was the site I got my plants from. My only rant with all the Coleus vendors is that the pictures never do justice to the plant. I'd like to see more pictures of the overall habit of the plant and some better quality photos of leaves. But then, if the pictures were more seductive, I'd be broke:)
Had a pleasant phone conversation with Bernard on the phone and ordered and have lived with the following:
Butter Cream - very nice green and white coleus. Smallish in size and seldom goes into bloom unless I stress it. Have taken cuttings and noted that it responds well to a heat matt. It does attract white flies and I've had success with interspersing marigolds and other herbs among the plants and have not had an occurrence since.
Illumination - a tall variety, great for standards. Very nice color combination. Leaves on not ruffled, which give the plant an almost poinsettia appearance.
El Brighto - nice blend of colors and only slight leaf ruffle in this mid-sized. In full sun, the color is wonderful. I've only just started a standard from this one, but looks promising.
Live Wire - a short variety with leaves that are a patchwork of green red and cream. It's my favorite. Although it does ok with the annual prune and repot, it can look sickly at times if I stress it (i.e. let the soil get too dry). This would be an interesting bonsai or terrarium specifmen.
Fiesta - With it's burgundy base and thin lime green fringe, this one is a striking mid size plant. Makes a nice standard. Blooms easily this one needs to be pinched constantly and use a low value P in your fertilizer application.
Vulcan - tall, sturdy and a fast grower from cuttings. Makes a nice standard. Slightly ruffled leaves in red and green. A basic Coleus in my view.
landscapingfool: You will enjoy your coleus standards. This was my first year growing coleus as standards, about 30 of them. My two most impressive are pictured below. The tallest is 'Blair's Witch' and the left one is 'El Brighto'. The shorter bushy one is a cutting of 'El Brighto' that I took while training the standard. Both cultivars are very vigorous growers.

I ordered from Gebhart and was pleased. They sent me several free ones.

I was very pleased with my coleus from Gebhart's last year. This is a photo taken 5/25, 11 days after potting them in gallon pots.
