Ok,I got this in trade this passed summer and I don't know what it's doing here. I just noticed these little transparent spheres on the stems. Are they flower buds?
Impatiens grandis rosea
Not flower buds, but sugary secretions, maybe meant to attract ants for protection from herbivores in the wild (though it seems that our ants only seem to bring sap sucking pests with them). I had a plant of I grandis but it got scale and I tossed it--it does have beautiful flowers and is rare in nature but only blooms during short days (winter) so it wouldn't bloom under my conditions (too many hours of light indoors in winter, won't bloom in summer outdoors). I've seen it in bloom at the NYBG in a greenhouse, it is pretty if you can get it to bloom. Good luck.
Thanks for the info. It's doing good inside but Imay need to move it else where if it needs extra darkness. It's on a light bench that's on about 12 hrs a day.
