Oh, That's a pretty one.

Sienna Ruffles really is a lovely bloom! Stormyla, is there any chance that SR is the ‘mystery’ daylily that you wrote about on November 10, 2009 at http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7260293 ? SR has similar colors and veining as the mystery DL, though the latter lacks the ruffling deep into the throat. Then again – the flowers I get in the late fall and winter sometimes only barely resemble their ‘normal’ summer selves. Elizabete

Thank you, Joy.

Elizabete, Sorry, no SR is not that DL. They are growing in two different locations. I will be able to figure out the mystery DL next summer after they all bloom and I work through my purchase records.

San Rafael, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks, stormyla! Actually, that leaves the door open for the possibility that it might not be a dormant - which I probably shouldn't attempt growing in CA. Or do you only grow dormants? Elizabete

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Elizabete, Actually, I don't know enough about daylilies to know whether or not it is a dormant other than to go out there and look for the foliage. I don't research daylilies when I buy them. I simply buy what appeals to me. Probably not the best strategy, but it's been my only one todate. LOL, I've graduated to looking for bloom time. Just about any daylily I plant, grows well. Feel free to enlighten me in any regard.

Stormyla, I only asked because eons ago - in the mid 70's to early 80's - I lived in Haverford, which isn't that far from you. I did grow daylilies, but inherited a garden, with - among other things - daylilies, all of which were dormant. I'm certainly no expert - the daylily world has changed enormously since then, and I only again began growing them a year and a half ago, when I left my longtime shady garden and came back out into a sunny one, where DL's could thrive. : ) All the best, Elizabete

Rutens, my Grandmother lived in Havertown. I'm surprised so few people posted Darryl Apps photos. His DL's are very popular here.

Peanut Butter Frenzy (Apps, 1999)
height 43", bloom 2.75", season MLa, Dormant, Diploid, 45 buds, 10 branches, Golden bronze orange red bicolor with orange red eye above yellow throat. (CAROLUS X GOLDEN CHIMES)

Pod setting is extremely difficult, it looks like they take, but then almost all of them abort.

Pollen works better, but it's picky about who it teams up with. I should see some seedlings from it in 2011.

Self dead heads .... very clean looking plant. Vigorous increase.

Peanut Butter Frenzy looks and sounds almost like a Ditch lily on steroids! LOL. Except without the excessive invasiveness.
