how long does it take for papaya seeds to sprout? it seems like iv had them in the soil for about 4 weeks now...are they hard to get to sprout???...they are in "black gold" seed starting medium, i keep the soil constantly moist, in front of the window.....???
am i just being impatient with my papayas? =/
Papaya seeds may take five weeks or more to sprout. You can speed that up by cleaning off the clinging aril from the seeds before planting.
I'm beginning to believe they go dormant, some of them. I bought seed a year ago, and re-used the soil I sprouted them in. I still have papayas coming up occasionally in other potted plants!
The seed is supposed to be viable for a very short time, but I think that's said because a certain percentage from each fruit have differing dormancies.
The littler seedlings are females, if you've planted the kinds that have male/female plants.
Cody, where did you get your seed from?
