CD/DVD drives not acknowledged anymore, help needed please..

Howdy Folks...

For some reason both my (ancient) CD reader and my DVD/CD reader/burner won't work. They both open up allowing me to insert a disc but I get the same message each time,

" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."

I have no idea what that means, what caused it, or what to look for in the Folder Options control panel. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does anyone know why it would happen. (Using WIN2K. This is the first time this has happened.)

Much obliged if anyone has any input, solutions, or words of encouragement!
