I love, love, love my Dahlias! Due to a freeze we had here in NW Okla (zone 6b), all of my stalks have finally died. I want to get the tubers lifted and stored. What is the best way to ensure they will produce the beautiful flowers for next year and when is the best time to replant? In the Spring or Summer?
Thank you so much for your help.
Digging Dahlias
i put my in a onion sack and hang it in a dark closet.
Here you go cdmitch- see number 14. A to Z of digging, complete with photos. But if you can get away with the onion sack in a closet, GO FOR IT! Plant in spring after all danger of frost has passed or soil temp is at least 60 degrees. You can start them early in pots to get a little head start, just keep them from freezing and avoid waterlogging the tubers til some roots develop to take up water. Usually when the plants are up several inches, they will be able to take some water, but easy does it.
Lots of great general growing info there too.
