Cleaning a Jenn Aire stove top?

My daughter has a Jenn Aire stove top in her house. It was there when she bought the house and it is probably 15 yrs old. She has always had plans to pull it out for a new one but $$. . . . . . .
We want to pull the whole thing out, including that greasy greasy down draft vent and clean clean.
Cleaning that down vent; any one do that w/ a rental or know of a method?
