do jap. morning glories reseed themselves like "regular"

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

morning glories out in the garden?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

mamajack - They will if the dropped seeds don't freeze. I. purpurea seeds can handle freezing better than I. nils (which is what species of morning glory that Japanese MGs are). The JMGs also do better in fertile soil.

Hi Mamajack -

Japanese Morning Glories are both Ipomoea nil as well as Ipomoea purpurea, plus other species.
And, yes, they will re-seed for me in my 8a TX Zone where I do have some freezes, so they should for you as well. I get quite a few I. nils pop up every spring, along with I. purureas, so just watch for them.

Hope this helps.

Emma
