Wow Nanny, that sure is a nice collection of awful shots. lol This thread should also be called the (No Zen Today) thread. lol

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I bet for every bad shot you got, you had a bunch of good ones! We don't call you the Queen of Warblers for nothing.

I haven't had any good shots lately. Here's an Orange Crowned Warbler.

That is a beautiful blur GP.

I'm going to have some awful shots to share today! Shall we start with a mockingbird? I was thinking that the night blooming jasmine berries would be pretty for x-mas when this mockingbird decided to feast one them. Then I hoped I'd get a good berry in the beak picture, but no!

Well, Nanny, you get an A for effort! At least the sun was shining. We've had a bit of sun today here too, but it looks like it's clouding over again.

Rose, you are too kind! I was glad that I at least got the proof shot!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow Nanny! That's great. i still have not seen one of those carolina wrens, though they are supposed to be around here somewhere!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

They are really being noisy this year...or maybe it just that I have learned one of their songs finally! I heard one this morning when I put the trash out.

last bad shot...

Wow, that's a lot of wrens Nanny. At least you get to enjoy them!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

I wasn't planning on the sparrow moving its head or the mysterious bird flying through my photo.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Ooh! I like it. What kind of bird is that?

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

No idea, probably a mockingbird or a scrub jay by the size.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Very interesting shot!!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

So I've been trying to get a good pic of my winter hummer. I especially want one with the tail fanned out so Resin can tell if it's an Allen's or a female Rufous. Resin or someone more skilled will have to make the ID b/c I read that you can tell by the width of the outer tail feathers. I can't see a difference at all.

Anyway here is the only picture that I've gotten in the last month with the tail fanned and you can't see a thing!

OK, here is my awful bird picture. I did not realize this was in the photo until I started examining the shots later on the computer.

So, now you have been officially mooned by a Sparrow!! :-)

I was trying so hard to get a photo of him for my mother. Imagine my surprise when I downloaded that photo while she was sitting there beside me.

Janet

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

nice one Janet!

Elph, I looked up your camera…
I think you *might* have some luck getting that hummingbird by:

switching to progressive capture (burst/continuous mode)
switching the exposure mode. Try using either shutter priority, or a sports mode. something that will stop the action. your ISO was only 160, so if it was higher, you could have a faster shutter speed.

Anyway, still might be hard to get since it IS a hummingbird.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Mrs. Ed. I remember you telling me how to use the sports mode on my other camera. I've used it on this one and it seems to be slower. I know that sounds crazy, but I click and by the time it snaps the hummer is gone. I think if the hummer were still in the frame, it would come out clearer, but I haven't been very lucky. I should try it again.

The feeder in the pic above was full of ice this morning. It was a very weird morning in Houston Texas. The vine behind it doesn't look dead in this photo from this morning, but now, it's wilted and will be brown and dead soon.

That's cute Elphaba!
