Awful Bird Pics Vol. 11
I love this thread . . . .it makes me feel so, well, normal:)
OMG! That female cardinal is hilarious! She's making quite the fashion statement. GP, your male looks good in all that wood!
Missey, I've only seen my Oriole babies fluffy like your lady. Cute!!
Good one Mrs Ed!
Good ones guys!!!
It *might* help if the sun came out.
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Resin
oh, yes Resin. Forgot to say what the blur was. They move so fast anyway.
Oh my.....missy that truely is awful...but funny!
I hear ya Mrs. Ed...we are back to dark and rainy here...*sigh*
I'll take your word for it GP. lol
That is a beautiful blur GP.
I'm going to have some awful shots to share today! Shall we start with a mockingbird? I was thinking that the night blooming jasmine berries would be pretty for x-mas when this mockingbird decided to feast one them. Then I hoped I'd get a good berry in the beak picture, but no!
I love that shot Elph...they are so elusive and you are most fortunate to get a shot of two...I am very jealous!!
Well, Nanny, you get an A for effort! At least the sun was shining. We've had a bit of sun today here too, but it looks like it's clouding over again.
Rose, you are too kind! I was glad that I at least got the proof shot!
Wow Nanny! That's great. i still have not seen one of those carolina wrens, though they are supposed to be around here somewhere!
Wow, that's a lot of wrens Nanny. At least you get to enjoy them!
Ooh! I like it. What kind of bird is that?
No idea, probably a mockingbird or a scrub jay by the size.
Very interesting shot!!
So I've been trying to get a good pic of my winter hummer. I especially want one with the tail fanned out so Resin can tell if it's an Allen's or a female Rufous. Resin or someone more skilled will have to make the ID b/c I read that you can tell by the width of the outer tail feathers. I can't see a difference at all.
Anyway here is the only picture that I've gotten in the last month with the tail fanned and you can't see a thing!
Red-shouldered Hawk for the last one
Resin
Cute shots everyone!!
I was trying so hard to get a photo of him for my mother. Imagine my surprise when I downloaded that photo while she was sitting there beside me.
Janet
nice one Janet!
Elph, I looked up your camera…
I think you *might* have some luck getting that hummingbird by:
switching to progressive capture (burst/continuous mode)
switching the exposure mode. Try using either shutter priority, or a sports mode. something that will stop the action. your ISO was only 160, so if it was higher, you could have a faster shutter speed.
Anyway, still might be hard to get since it IS a hummingbird.
Thanks Mrs. Ed. I remember you telling me how to use the sports mode on my other camera. I've used it on this one and it seems to be slower. I know that sounds crazy, but I click and by the time it snaps the hummer is gone. I think if the hummer were still in the frame, it would come out clearer, but I haven't been very lucky. I should try it again.
The feeder in the pic above was full of ice this morning. It was a very weird morning in Houston Texas. The vine behind it doesn't look dead in this photo from this morning, but now, it's wilted and will be brown and dead soon.
That's cute Elphaba!
