Machine Embroidery Software - Suggestions?

Does anyone have software that allows you to split larger designs to fit smaller hoops? Also, I am looking to be able to set up lettering easily (to add names to designs or monograms) and finally to be able to resize designs that are only slightly too big for my hoop. I don't really have an interest in digitizing at this point and I don't want to spend a fortune for software. So any suggestions?

BTW, I have a Brother 900D with a max embroidery field of 4 x 4.
