Dee's Recovery from Surgery #2

Winnsboro, TX

Starting up the new thread for Dee. Could someone please put a link to where we came from? I'm not very good with computers and I don't know how to do that kind of stuff. (Yet) LOL.

Dee I'm still praying for you and Cass daily. It will take sometime before your back to full strength and can do everything your use to doing. Don't over do it and stay off that leg every chance you get, even if you have to make that chance and skip over something that you can put off a day or two.

Love Ya, Pulling and Praying for both you and your DH.

Here's where we came from.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1047767/

Thanks for the new thread Marian. Let's all help Dee, and the rest of us, through the winter.

Lebanon, OR

I know today I really overdid...paying big time this evening, can not even think or watch TV or quilt. Luckyily I finished the T day napkins for Maggi since she does Tday for the family. Attached is picture

Tomorrow one kitty to vet then home to rest. Wish I could relax and soak in bath, but not until the doc releases me on the 18th, then I am going to go into hot tub and take a long hot soak in the bath

Better tomorrow I know it and must start realizing that I am not super woman any more, but did get all the things we needed truly needed done today.

I found y'all. Moved on me. You take a big rest there D. Love the Napkins and everyone else will too. They will probably sneak them out in a pocket or purse LOL.

Lebanon, OR

doubtful:) as it is just family and they know who made them and will just ask...like my new DIL without seeing something has said that since Maggi wants the Christmas tree lite wall hanging that see will need one as well. They are not easy to store.

Dee, we all told you so.., FBI is on the way to Oregon to move you two to a secret place just to survive. I will be back tomorrow. Today was a very busy day. Love yo all. SK Winter. Mother Winter, (Sharon).

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Great napkins, Dee....listen to what your poor leg tells you...don't over do everything.
Be well, ladies, I am just nearly out of steam tonight and can't linger.

Wishing you sunshine for tomorrow.

Lebanon, OR

Sharon

Wish we could either fly or drive down as need to get away and maybe behave as can do PT any place.

But I PROMISE to behave tomorrow as just taking kitty to vet and home...going to put more weight and pressure on the knee to save the left hip....

Glad you liked the napkins.

Fantastic napkins. Please take care of yourself--your posts are very important to us. Ooops--that is phone calls.

Keeping all the BIF in my prayers. Mailing you a little (very little) hummer. Hope you can use him!
Life is crazy right now, my hand quilter team teacher had an asthma attack and ended up in the hospital where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Will be on antibiotics for awhile and has to avoid people (and their germs). Another quilting friend is just getting home from intensive care, not a candidate for surgery but has a very bad hernia. She has no family in area and needs someone to sit with her. Took on the task (joyful for me) of watering another friend's garden and checking on her kitty. Her daughter has pneumonia and she flew to NH to be with her. I have a mound of unfinished projects sitting on my sewing table all needing just a little bit of finishing. Did finish the surprise baby quilt for JOY. To keep it a surprise I need address, anyone have it?

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Marian, what is the name of that beautiful iris in the photo on your first post?

Hello everybody. I've been lurking here lately instead of participating.......................not a good typist and it would take me forever to try to tell about my lift (which is rather boring anyhow).

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that all the irises I dug, divided and replanted bloom next spring, as well as the new ones I got at the end of the summer/beginning of fall.

D, glad you are doing so well that you overdo!!!!

Lebanon, OR

Well to tell you all how well I am behaving, it is sunny! I am inside after taking kitty to vet for shots and having an eye infection checked, then deposit money at the bank. I have been working on the webpage, and just finished Bianco page then will work on introductions page next.

I am so excited to have started this and after a short nap will go back on work on the quilt

Dee, you were not alone overdoing it. Yesterday, rototilled up over a LONG single row all by myself. we'd purchased a reconditioned small Honda tiller thinking I could handle it without DH. It was the first time I'd had enough energy to use it, and it worked great! Then shoveled and toted 3" of compost over top the row, then raked it level. My upper arm muscles were jelly.

Worked until dark, didn't notice it getting cold as the sun set, was working and sweating. now I've got a headcold. ARGH. but one more tilling, and there's space for 80 or so of the older irises still in my temp beds here. This is at my friend's house just off a bend in the Neuse River near Knightdale NC. It took 25 wheelbarrows of compost, each one covered between 6 and 8 feet of row.

LOVE THE NAPKINS HOW CUTE!

South Hamilton, MA

AIS Bulletin came today--I feel better about it being fall as a result. Glad that you were good, Dee.

Lotus, I think that the iris in the photo at the top of this thread is "Anything Goes" but I could be wrong. Which ever one it is I dearly love and I also love Panama Hatie. They both are very beautiful just like most irises. LOL

OK you two that should be doing nothing, I am now in charge!!!!.
Of course, I have been in charge since I was in Kindergarten or I thought I was. We have beautiful weather in Las Vegas, high 80s and the southwest air fare is cheap. My room rate is reasonable. FREE. Of course my DH thinks I have lost my mind and all you gardeners coming our way are mass murders. LOL. I told him we could probably out run your walkers and bad hips and whatever. I have two guest rooms available the first week in December. I have three patios, two downstairs and one upstairs. You can be alone or with whomever. It is your choice. We live on the greenbelt so there is a great walking path all the way down to the golf course. . We can drop you off on the strip to sit and look around or walk the strip which is like watching the New York Marathon. Someone from DG is coming for the National Rodeo. The air fare is cheap, we will pick you up at the airport and then feed you. Be aware, I am a better gardener than cook but it is eatable. Actually your only cost is airfare unless you overeat or drink to much. LOL. Your sick, cold bones will love it. I have irides but they are a mess and you can help me. I just need a shopping list if someone needs special food And we can take a visit to my new greenhouse. I will tell you all tomorrow what happened. Love you all.....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I think we should all descend upon her at the same time....every one of us!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm in.

Raleigh, NC

huh oh - that's one road trip DH would insist on making with me, but I'd rather not. we used to always go to Vegas for CES, but now we're not in that industry. Don't do crowds, don't do noise. especially now with swine flu out there. I'd stay in her garden.

Cut Bank, MT(Zone 3a)

I'll meet you in the garden Bonjon

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I have not been on the strip in years unless I am forced to by visiting relatives. There is beautiful Zion National Park just up the road in Utah. Grand Canyon down the other road toward Arizona. About 10 miles up the road from our home is Red Rock Canyon. Of course Death Valley is great this time of year. I am with bonjon, I do not venture far because of the swine flu. We had another two people die this week. So far no one our age has died. Seems to hit mid 20s to mid 50s. I have a Lexus SUV that seats 7 people.

Small portion of back patio. Patio goes the full length of the house which is probably close to 80 ft and then wraps around the other side where the swimming pool is located..

Sharon, you do not know how much of a tempation this would be for us if we could we would, both need rest, sun, as right now it is 38F and finally the fog lifted,. I could bring my computer and work on the webpage doing the data end and bring the quilt to work on late at night.

I would want to go anywere but the strip and do not like to get near many people until we get our swine flu vacatine if that ever happens, as I am sure you both are on the high risk as well as we are.

Our SIL is just getting over it and to date no one else in the family got it and they are staying away from us big time until the doctor gives the family an all clear.

Got more on the quilt done last night and only 3 pieces to go on this iris then will stop and take a picture of it and post.

Thank you big time for the offer and if I could I would be there today

D

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Sooooo...........................when will you be here to pick us up? We can be ready to go and all packed in hardly any time at all. We won't fly because of being exposed to the flu but we would be safe riding with you. And we will be quite happy just seeing the local sights and sitting on your lovely patio drinking coffee or iced tea. We'll bring masks just in case.

On a serious note, a man in our town (52 years old) died yesterday from swine flu. I have a few friends who claim that young children in their families have had it for a few days and recovered but I doubt it because there was nothing sent to a lab. Their physicians just said it was a type 1 flu. I wish the national news would stop all the updates concerning the increase in cases of swine flu. There is not enough available vaccine to give all the caregivers and children and others at high risk.........let alone the rest of the population. It doesn't serve a positive purpose to inform us of the dangers and the spread of the illness when we are powerless to get the vaccine. My own thinking is that it causes stress and a feeling of helplessness because there's nothing we can do about it.

Zion is magnificent.I like to drive thru and end up at the opposite end of Grand Canyon, was in a long ago January last I saw it

Lebanon, OR

Last time there we did Hoover Dam, impressive to say the least but even the county side outside of town is something. But if I ever get there again, how about a tour of the fabric shops:)

Bead shops...nothing less honest

D

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well I know nothing about fabric shops but my daughter does and she also does beads. She also makes her own beads. She does it as a hobby. Her husband the attorney makes her keep all of her receipts of sale and purchase. Last year she made $100.00. She does not charge enough. Take care, my daughter just showed up and we are going shopping.

Raleigh, NC

well, if I come I guess I could sit around the patio and enjoy the peace and quiet, and i've never seen Zion. But Randall's going to want to go to casinos. LOL

Lebanon, OR

I will go with Sharon and anyone else that comes along to the beautiful country, fabric stores bead stores and to sit and do some serious R&R, go thru the letter on the bearded iris catalog pages done except for the links to the pictures and do that all at once. So this is a little ahead of schedule.

Today at PT they increased the weights, time, reps and added two new ones..2 more weeks there. Did not do me in today but all I did afterward was to go to the thrift store looking for cat carrier and the produce stand to get some great fruit still in season figs, nectorines and asian pears for our veggie salad.

Will post another picture of the quilt in a few more minutes.

D

Who needs sun as it is windy, stormy and raining, suppose to get really bad in the next week. Worse by the day. On the coast they are without power in two larger areas and power lines down.

D

Lebanon, OR

Well here it is as of tonight, just two more iris to go then start the zig zag and the sides

That is so beautiful. Enjoy doing your project. Think warm. Love Sharon in Las Vegas.,...

Raleigh, NC

I know I will be thinking warm. I might even break out the new Atlas thermal gloves!

found someone on craigslist yesterday giving away everbearing strawberry plants. went and dug two five gallon buckets of them, now have to pot them up. or find a place for them.

South Hamilton, MA

Tossed a couple of bulb catalogs today--planting season is over. Supposed to warm up over the wkend so might get some weeds out. DO take care Dee.

Lebanon, OR

Today working on webpage and going into town for an errand, that is all. Not even going to bazaars, as last night did not get much sleep for many reasons...

D

Raleigh, NC

LOL - we're just starting bulb planting here! but I've been planting other things still....I'm still transplanting irises from temp beds.

Dee, happened to glance outside yesterday, and over 1/3 of that shipment you sent have new green leaves showing already! despite aphids, cold, and rain, they are growing.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well, I had a wonderful day. Temperature 78, clear blue sky and I had classical guitar playing on my i pod. Went to the greenhouse early. Total reconfiguration being done. When I got there, there were four big burly men taking apart the stands and making them different. Do not get excited. They were nothing to get excited about. One of them, smoked and started walking toward the greenhouse. I first said you cannot smoke in Summerlin, our section of Las Vegas. He said watch me, so I figured he was smarter than he looked. I said you cannot come in the greenhouse because we are going to be growing tomatoes and they get a disease from cigarettes.

My young protege has decided hydroponic has decided it is not going to work so now we are moving to potting mix. He was having a problem with his lettuces and went to the hydroponic shop. He was talking about the problem with his lettuce and they were just staring at him.. They said, "Oh you are calling it lettuce". He said, "No it is lettuce". That is when he found out that all the hydroponic production in Las Vegas is in marijuana. I can agree. I went there on Friday to get some really great trays for cuttings and all the customers where Hispanics. Just wanted to speak with one sales person that was definite. Would probably be a 20 minute wait. I spoke with one gentleman waiting and I asked, "Are you here to do better with your lettuce". This guy guy laughed and said of course. It became clear what they were there for. They do not know that I have friends in the FBI, CIA. DEA, and local police. I cannot determine who to sick on them? I must get my supplies before they are raided I only get great trays for cuttings.
My protege is such a fine young man and so excited, you cannot be anything less. We are going organic and heirloom. One expert came forward asking him about the rabbits. I had not even given them a thought. I do not have problems with rabbits but homes closer to the golf course do. The greenhouse is on the golf course. They will just dig under and come in for dinner. I will have to study up on that one. This should be a great learning venture for me.

Baby Luke Michael came to visit yesterday. He is so small. But is very smart. Already doing well in algebra, but he has a little to learn before he is a chess master.

This afternoon, I worked with an irrigation specialist at my home. Had a major problem in one of the front areas. After a couple hundred dollars and about 6 hours, all seems to be working. The only problem was when he was ready to finish an area he wanted me to assure him it was right. I stated, "How would I know, you are the expert. That is why you are here." It is so frustrating because when we had this home built I hired " an expert" irrigation personnel so it would not be the disaster my DB and DH came up with the last homestead. Wrong. Got the same messed up system, just paid a lot of money for it. The irrigation system is another two hour discussion in the limo headed this way. I think I will contact Donald Trump and see if he wants to send many female gardeners from everywhere to Las Vegas. He could not get that publicly for the price it would cost for a Limo on the West Coast and one on the East Coast. He could actually fly everyone on the East Coast to the West in his private jet and then we could use two limos to tour the west. When you ask you will get one answer, Yes or No. If you do not ask you get nothing. I have friends in high places in Las Vegas Hotels. I will ask them how we approach this. I love you all. Dee be well. The quilt is absolutely beautiful.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

SK, my dear twin, you make me smile right out loud every single time! Thank you. You might as well go ahead and ask Mr. T, I anxiously await his answer. I am so glad baby Luke is showing such magnificent signs of smartness already. It must of course be genetic.

Dee, I hope you are well, and yes, it is a beautiful quilt.

I worked in my gardens all day long in this wonderful 77 degrees of sunshine, and it is well past this old lady's bedtime.

You all have a good evening.

Raleigh, NC

Dee, today I potted up another 40 irises, this time for market next spring. Thinking of all you've taught me along the way. Then I potted up 30 strawberry plants that have no other home. realized I must have at least another 60 to go. Wow!

none of my original seeds have germinated. humph! I didn't cover the pots. thinking our squirrels got the better of my maiden hybridizing efforts. oh well. gotta try again. I've started a thread about seeds on the forum, as I think you've seen. tell me, do you start dreaming about what to cross come bloom season? I woke up at 1:00, hungry and needing to write down ideas on crosses to make!

Lebanon, OR

While I am working on the updated webpage for next year I am seeing crosses to try, one I know is any of Blyths with All About Spring.....

D

Raleigh, NC

don't have that one yet. But I'm head over heels in love with 3 others of Kerr's, and already have crosses planned for when I get them!

Lebanon, OR

which Kerrs you looking for?
