I live in South Alabama, and other than Kudzu I believe this is one of the most invasive plants here.. I have never heard it called anything but Jap Grass. Does anyone know what I'm referring to and how to get rid of it?

You may be referring to Cogongrass, Imperata cylindrica.

No pic yet? Could you be talking about Japanese Stiltgrass (Microstegium vimineum)? Its a real problem in this part of the country. Check out this site: http://www.nps.gov/plants/ALIEN/fact/mivi1.htm
