Saving iris seeds

Houghton Lake, MI(Zone 4b)

I did 8 crosses and have a lot of seeds. Wanted to only plant half of them and save some of the seeds to plant in the spring. Since it will be 6-7 months until I plan on planting the rest, do the seeds need to be kept cold? Should I soak them now or wait until before I plant them? How would you store them? I found a lot of info on planting seeds, but nothing about storing them. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

I have seeds in envelopes & they can be stored in a drawer, preferably in a larger container, i.e. larger envelope or cardboard box. Stay away from plastic containers which can hold moisture.

Thanks IrisMA. Will the seeds need to go through a chilling period before they are planted?

fall planting is recommended because they need that long chilling period. If you plant them in the spring they probably won't sprout until the next spring.
