How do I winterize this little tree?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I was given some seeds for a Tatarian Maple Tree last spring so I planted them in pots. One grew, now I have a 6" Maple tree in a pot outside and am not sure how to winterize it. Any suggestions??
I'm a zone 4b/5a , thank you!!!!

Plant it. Acer tataricum is very hardy, but leaving it in a pot won't do it any good.

I agree with Resin, it'll be better off in the ground, but if you get rabbits or deer in your yard, I suggest covering the stem with - I'm not sure what it's called - but it's a cardboard spiral with air-holes.

Thank you both!! I was wondering if it would be OK to plant it, i'll do it tomorrow!!!

I use 36" chicken wire to protect newly planted small trees, shrubs and conifers. I used to use 24" chicken wire, but one year we got enough snow that the bunnies just walked over the top of the wire and ate the plant. Darn bunnies!
