Our cool front moved through yesterday. I was so happy I stayed outside most of the day! We woke up to a low of 53.4* yesterday and never made it to 70*. Today we woke up to 46.3*. I am one happy camper LOL!

October Daily Weather Tricks & Treats Part 3
28° at 8 AM this morning.
That's at our local airport about 5 miles from here BUT down in the valley.
All I know is the towel I left hanging on the curtain pole from the house to the HT was stuck to it......
Car was totally frost covered (but it's in our coolest spot) ....
but the house next door (on the other side) was not.
It's Currently 39° and calm at 10 AM.
So it's a good thing we got all the plants in....
first time I ever remember the first frost and freeze happening simultaneously.
Our Ave first Frost date is 10/13. First Freeze 10/27.
So we just about split the difference.
Sharon we both LOVE those cats!
About 36" tall?
Nice Frit shot!
Today we are going to take a day off.
I haven't had the camera out in days....lol!
Tomorrow we'll start the cleanup.
Ric
Cool!
Does the store have a web site?
Temp jumped to 45° in the last few minutes.
It's currently warmer in Denver than in Orlando, FL.....
And they are 2 hours behind! LOL!
Ric
Good morning~I'm up before sunrise~which is good, because sunrise is at 8:48am:))
The long dark days are coming quickly. But, the dark, clear sky is filled w/stars w/Big Dipper right overhead near enough to touch.
26*F with highs in the 30-40's.
Thanks for the new thread, MySharona~cute pics from the last thread, too.
Celia~so glad the news is much better than thought~~~excellent.
kelli~rain on the pond looked great; bet you loved it, too.
The photos have been so beautiful; love the fall/winter/brrr/and sky. Gorgeous world to see~thanks all for sharing.
While on vacation, I'd posted a photo of where I'd lived as a child. The housing is now long gone; the mine closed and a flood took out most of the remains. My sister gave me this pic of the housing taken in 1945. This is my father, w/me, in front of the housing in Bishop, Calif.
Sure glad the cold headed elsewhere. We've had it long enough. It's 55º here going for mid 60's.
Kiska - Love the picture of you and your dad. What kind of mine? Did your dad work there? It's sad that the town is gone.
Ric - The store is Go Fish. The cats are imported from Bali. Here is a link to the store, but they don't list all of the animals. I'm a little disappointed in the web-site. http://www.gofishretail.net/home.php?cat=14

Came in for a minute from weeding, the ground is soaked and those weeds just pull right up. Going to go plant some tulip bulbs.
Love the pics on the previous thread and this one! Kiska how neat of you to stand on the foundation of your old house, oh the memories.
Celia, great news! I'm so happy for you and Crystal! Great pics! Love the golden sunset.
Sharon, I'll take the camera, just if it's another gorgeus day...for now it's only rain, rain, rain...ugh!Cute pics!
Ric, glad you are OK.
Kiska, how cute to have that picture!
48 today , strong wind and raining. Forecasted more warm tomorrow...I hope so!LOL
Adina
I watched the Vikings - Ravens game. Vikings had it in hand for 3 quarters. Ravens came back in 4th quarter. They blew a field goal at the end to give Vikings win, 33 to 31.
I finished the walls in the shed for the baby chicks. Need to put some foam board on the ceiling & will be ready for them when they come on Thursday.
Bernie
We had a cold wind driven rain all day that has turned to snow. Yuck.
Hi, Andy!! Welcome back! :-)
Yayyy, Vikings, Bernie!
6 - 0
Our stars all shined today!
I turned on the Patriots Game at the start of the second quarter.
Started watching because of the snow. I LOVE snow games.
Didn't realize I was going to see Tom Brady tie A 59 year old record.
5 touchdowns passes in one quarter!
In the snow!?! AMAZING.
Down to 37° might see freezing again.... then mid 60's tomorrow.
Now they are calling for low 70's Weds!
Furnace is STILL off......
Ric
33* and dropping this evening~
ric~loved the sunny floor and the bright red leaf~beautiful shade of reds.
Hi Andy~nice seeing you here too. Snowing and cold; bummer.
CG~busy as usual; with a deadline for both chicks and winter, time is of the essence.
In regards to the photo of Pine Creek~the mine was a Tungsten mine about 10-15 miles out of the town of Bishop, Calif. At the mine, there was only housing, no town. My dad worked there for a short time after WWII ended. He hadn't seen me till I was 2 years old as I was born shortly after he went overseas. Mining did not suit him and we moved to Northern Calif.
A book about the Pine Creek mine, "Mine in the Sky"; is very informative and contains comments and stories of my uncles and grandfather that also worked there.
MySharona~cute pic~
crissyr~sounds like a pretty Spring in your future.
The mine is deep within the tall white mountains in this pic. You'd never know it was there.
Good morning!
Breezy and cool this morning, 34°F. Mostly cloudy.
The girls are better so we had to get up for school this morning. There's quite a bit of difference from last week, it was still pretty dark when I walked HE to school. Sunrise is now at 8:31 and sunset will be at 5:54 pm.
Kiska - love the photos from your childhood home, beautiful scenery there :-) And the photo of you with your father is just great!
Hope you all have a great day!
Rann

Celia – Cute pic of the girls and horses!
Ric – nice pics!
Kiska - You are right…one would never know the mine had been in the valley. It’s a beautiful area. I’ll have to check out that book.
Rann – I’m glad the girls are feeling better!

Sunny. Highs in the upper 60s. North winds 10 to 15 mph.
I'll have to enjoy the cool while it lasts. Supposed to be back in the 80's by Thursday and a possible record high on Saturday, then back in a cooling trend Sunday.
A friend gave me this Phal for my birthday. I haven't been about to get an ID on it - just that it's very pretty and a Phal LOL!

There is a reason people plant maples.
Oh, wow, been busy with our Mid-South gardening round-up and house guests on Friday and Saturday nights. We had an absolutely fan-tabulous round-up--our best yet in my opinion!
Here is a link to my pics for anyone who is interested--if you go to the link, be sure you see the photos I took at the Old Mill. It is a wonderful park in the North Little Rock area. It even appears in the opening credits of the movie, "Gone With The Wind".

today we have ample sunshine and temps in the 60's--I'm wasting daylight--need to get all my round-up plants in the ground. I'll be back later to catch up with y'all
great news about Crystal, Celia! :o))
Pretty!
I like the two tone affect.
32° and sunny.
We're on the back side of that High between us Sharon.
So our weather will be determined by winds from the SW.
You get our colder air.... we'll take the warm dry TX stuff.
Some forecasts have us at mid 70's by Weds afternoon.
All have us at least the upper 60's and dry thru that period.
We're starting to get some color now...
Ric

Nice pics everyone. We don't get much for orange & red fall colors here. A bit of yellow, but that's about it. It was above average temps all of Sept & 1st couple of weeks into Oct and then we got hit with a very hard frost -16ºC or 3ºF. Most of the tree leaves were still green and now froze, so even less colors this year.

Here's a picture of great excitement & anticipation. Call-Before-You-Dig markings. I'm going to dig a trench and run 20 amp service to the greenhouse. YEAH!!! I don't start up the GH until March 1st, but the ground will be frozen then.
I LOVE snow games too Ric, but Tennessee obviously has problems with the snow, I'm wondering if they were assigned the wrong cleats. At half time the network here switched to another game that was much more interesting, but I don't remember what game it was, it was good, I watched it... LOL
LOL Kiska! I don't know how you guys handle it in the winter with hardly any sunlight, I would go insane. I need a cabin up there for summer living, it's too hot down here :)

I'm pooped--been planting flowers most of the day--I'll catch up with y'all tomorrow.
Thanks Mau!
Chrissy Tennessee has FAR more problems than the cleats...they are 0-6!
Currently 50°
We hit 62° but high whispy clouds came in so the sun didn't feel as hot as it did yesterday.
We did mostly yard work today.
Started in the Brickroom and worked out to the deck.
The yard was/is a mess. Always is after the Great Plant Migration.
We have maybe 50 pots to empty and at least that many saucers and such to clean and store.
Plus this year we need to get a different leaf netting over the new pond.
Our old one was bamboo... this one will be PVC.
So we made a design, figured materials and headed to Lowe's.
Total cost less what we already had.... $4.67...lol!
Ric
Bernie, are you a Bret Favre fan?
Meanwhile, the Angels and Dodgers are killing me. I think they have the playoffs near Halloween because they are so scary.
I haven't needed to run the air conditioner today.

Almost 70 today with a breeze and sunny!!! Yesterday was the first time I had seen the sun in over a week. And I saw it again today!! Enjoying it while I can.
Spent the weekend in Iowa with family and had a ton of fun. Went horseback riding (my fav thing to do even above gardening) and my saddle for some reason wouldn't stay on. Neither would the buddy saddle that my neice was using that was hooked to my saddle. We hit a brushy area and next thing I know my neice is falling off behind me, my sister starts yelling, my father turns around and his eyes get huge and next thing I know I'm on the side of the horse. LOL. Saddle slipped even more before anyone could get to me and I eventually land on the ground and almost landed on my niece. My father went to put the saddle back on right and had to get out pliers to loosen the cinch so he could move it. We haven't figured out why the saddle kept slipping yet. He eventually switched saddles with me and when we got back to the barn he leaned over to put my neice down, she fell and the saddle slipped over to the side of his horse and he went down also. My whole family got a good laugh outta it when we told the story.
I've been a Vikings fan since day one. Favre is now our QB, so I am a fan of him.
We had to suffer through some close to 40 games with him on the other side,. It's nice to have him on our side!
Amazing man when it comes to completing passes. We have some very good receivers & every game they are getting more used to each other.
We also have a kind of easy schedule.
Hit 65º again today. Only drawback, those stupid lady bugs & box elder bugs all over everything.
Rain again tomorrow night. Boo!
Bernie

Good morning!
Practically calm this morning, 34°F and mostly cloudy.
Celia - great news about Crystal! What a relief!
Beautiful photos everyone!
Have a good day!
Rann
I'm so far behind after being away due to our RU that I'll never catch up--guess I will just start fresh from here.
Pepper: glad nobody was hurt in your family's "great saddle adventure"!
Ric: you and Robyn have certainly worked hard these last few weeks getting your garden and GH in order. Maybe the two of you will have time to just relax a little bit in the coming weeks.
Celia: love the photo of Isis--hilarious!
We are due to have a high of 72F and sunshine--a great day to finish planting my RU plants. I'll be back later with a pic of my new shade bed and the RU plants that are going into it today.
We're looking at the upper 60's today. 43° currently.
Once we hit it I'll be opening all the windows and doors.
We'll be building the Pond Net and cleaning again today.
W/ two nights of freeze behind us the leaves will be turning and falling fast.
Looks like our normal cycle.
Leaves turn, place looks beautiful, next day a T-Storm comes in and blows them all down..... lol!
I'll see if this year I can get Catalpa Tree shots.
For those of you who don't know the Tree it has HUGE heart shaped leaves.
(In the Spring gorgeous white flowers almost Daff looking in shape.)
They turn yellow in about one day. Then all fall the next. They are so big you can hear them falling.

Even Raspberries can look pretty.
Ric
Thanks, Rann. How are your girls now? Better?
Mau, I love the RU pics! So much fun!
Ric, we have catalpa trees in our neighborhood but people 'round these parts chop the tops off and make the tree look like a giant mushroom. Ick! Darrell's mom had 2 in her yard. They're so beautiful when left to grow naturally, as she did.
