astermums

Lexington, MA(Zone 5b)

In the '40's and 50's, my mother always had plants she called astermums in the garden. They were fall bloomers, and looked something like daisies, with a yellow center, and one layer of very slightly purple petals. I loved them. I have never been able to find any. Can someone tell me the "real" name for these plants, and where I might be able to buy them. I would be very grateful.

Check Plant Files or Google. There must be a more contemporary term for them.

I always thought Blue Knoll mums reminded me of asters.

jmorth, I've never seen any that tall. Do you have a whole plant shot?

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

The concrete slab at base of picture is a foot higher than ground level. If I find a better shot later, I'll post it.

Wow Jmorth, Those are amazing. And I was annoyed because I had to stake my 4' tall Alma Potsche. What is that tall reddish bloom in the back left corner?

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Those are Dahlias, September Morn is about 7' tall and the other, Sonic Bloom tops out at 5.5' appx.

Jmorth, I've never seen Dahlias that tall either.
