Of course it wouldn't be a hike without poison oak. DH says that I am a fan of poison oak. No, it's just the only thing with much showiness this time of year.

(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Kelli. Pretty stuff going on these days.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Kelli thanks for starting a new thread. Lovely fall colors!
Ric, you'll have a GH on the house...so cool!
Rusty, beautiful rose!
Joey, what is that beautiful flower?
Very warm for this time of year today, 77, but 53 at night. Sunny, no clouds.

Thanks, Adina. Those leaves were taken in Pennsylvania a couple years ago. I figured you all would want something besides poison oak. ;-)

Peterstown, WV(Zone 6a)

Thanks Kelli! :D The day turned out to be rather gorgeous! No frost...it was 40 this morning & Way too much fog! I thought that I would have to get a knife to 'cut' my way to the car this morning! LOL! At the moment it's 70 & not a cloud in the sky! :D

Adina, I think it's an Oak leaf Hydrangea. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/243849/ And what a marvelous Sunrise! :D
Kelli! I hope we get some color like that this year. It's been so cool...& a lot of rain. Some people say that the rain affects the color & some says no, so go figure. I'll just wait & see what happens. :)
Rusty, Lovely Rose. :)
Marylyn, Sounds awfully sweltering down there! :-O
Celia! LOL! Some heat wave! :D
Ric, That is going to be such a neat GH! Small & handy? What rash? I knew that you got bee stung, but what did I miss? LOL! Sometimes I tend to be totally clueless! :D

Well, Gotta go put plants in the new tank. Nothin' like free stuff (used in tests) that they're going to throw away! ;)

Have a good one....
Joey

Marylyn, Sounds awfully sweltering down there! :-O

Sweltering?? This is COOL!! Well, compared to the past 3 months, anyway. LOL ;-)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

We got our 1st hard frost. -5 C or 23 F. feeling sad, most of the annuals are done. Petunias seem ok, but we are expecting another cold night tonight. Our normal average frost is Mid-September, so I really don't have reason to complain, but the 1st frost is always a sad day for me.

(Zone 7a)

Ric, are you going to use the window to get in and out of the GH? OR do you plan a reverse zip-line? ^_^

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

thanks for the new thread, Kelli! September surely did go by in a hurry!

Marylyn-- it would appear that it is still hot in your area!
Rusty, that's a very pretty rose.
Adina: The mums grow that way naturally. I don't shape them with shears. That's a pretty sunrise.
Ric: that is going to be a really nice GH. I'm assuming the door will be placed where the window is in the gable.
Celia: LOL on the "reverse zip-line"!
Joanna: it's hard for me to feature having a hard frost in September--but then I live in the southern U.S. LOL

I had lunch with Miss Lottie today at her house. My late DH, Buddy, and I "adopted" her several years ago as our "second mom". She and Buddy were very close. She celebrated her 90th birthday last week. I took her some fresh daisies and roses from my gardens. She insisted on cooking lunch for me--wouldn't let me bring lunch to her. She loves to cook. We had barbecue sandwiches, cole slaw, baked potatoes, field peas, and for dessert: cheese cake! I won't need supper tonight--LOL. This is a picture of Miss Lottie and Buddy which was taken on her 89th birthday last year.

Cold this morning at 42° on the porch, sunny and bright later but I think we were still in the 70's.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Reverse Zip-line! LOL! I wish!
Yes we'll replace the window w/ a door.
We had a Hoophouse out there for years and that eindow was our egress.

Joey I got something when I was in an out of the ponds so much.
Probably Dew Poisoning.
Then I got a weeping heat rash on my arms on top of that.
The HR I 've gotten under control. And the HT actually helps dry it up.
I'm still getting breakouts on the legs. MUCH better though w/ Celia's advice.
Couple more days and it should be gone.

Well it was a busy day.
We have 1/2 the GH framed.
Were going to 'Hoop' it at that point.
Now we're going to just do it all in wood.

Here's a roof shot.
Little more work, little more money but much easier to cover.
Cheaper to heat too as we can double wall the plastic.

Thumbnail by henryr10
Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

And a Robyn on the Roof shot so you get a sense of scale.

T-Storms moving in.
Like Joey we had some serious fog this morning.
No Frost anywhere in Ohio that I heard of.

Still warm here, but they forecasted rain tomorrow...and I'm working...ugh !
Ric, wow, that is going to be huge! Take care , guys! And with the rash too. Did you take some allergy pills?
I have some leaves turning, from the mums.

Mau, Miss Lottie looks like a dear woman. Enjoy her while you can. Buddy looks great in that pic.

Ric, I'm glad the advice is helping. Skin problems can be such a drag! LOL GH is looking great!

Adina, that's beautiful!

We picked up more rocks from D's mom's house. They're still in the truck. I need to move them out today and get some things in the ground.

This is a bad cell pic but it shows how Monty eats grass from the comfort of the porch.

We have snow in the forecast. Frost the last 2 nights. It's hard to believe that a week ago it was +30ºC/+86ºF. Castor bean didn't make it even with a frost blanket.

(Zone 7a)

Hey, Joanna! Been awhile since we heard from you. Sorry about the CB. I should check mine.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

WInd advisory in effect here with gusts up to 40 mph. I watered the mums this morning at work and that was pretty much the end of me being outside. They were all over the place even after I watered. Cool still too. 40s this morning and low 60s this afternoon.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Ric, did you say that you got the rash from the pond? DH got something like that once. What causes it?

Celia, if I look up lazy in the dictionary, will there be a picture of Monty? ;-)

Not windy today. At this time, they are calling for the whole next week to be not hot. Doing the happy dance!

Kelli: I don't know if you will find Monty under "lazy" but I think Celia will agree that you should be able to find his picture under "relaxation"--LOL

Ric: you and Robyn are making progress on the GH

looks like a nice week-end in store for my area-no rain in the forecast until Monday
Highs in mid-to-upper 70's; lows down in the low 50's

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Mau, Lottie looks good for 80 let alone 90!
That is a great picture of Buddy and her.
Looks like Mother and Son. (((HUGS)))

Kelli I 'think' it's what's called Dew Poisoning that started the whole mess.
A small cut or in my case a scratched mosquito bite, moist conditions, fungus and bacteria in the water.
Set me up for the whole deal.
If I had insurance it would have been a steroid shot and some steroid cream and done.
But.....

We're going to enclose the back (north) side of the GH.
Because of the angle it won't get any sun except in Summer. (When we don't want heat)
So it will be clad in 1/2" OSB and heavily insulated.
We'll clad the rest of it in plastic inside and out.
So w/ two layers we should get some good insulation there too.

It poured last night and rained steadily till about 11 AM.
So we went shopping for more lumber and did groceries while we were out.
Once again Wally World had skinless boneless chicken breasts on sale.
Came out to $1.02 a pound... each $1.89 pack (regularly $5.39) is two meals... lol!
We got 6 packs! Yum!

Had one of those weird experiences today.
We bought a new deadbolt for the front door.
Ours was probably 40 years old and the lock was worn out.
So at some point, probably Sunday, I was going to replace it.
Well when we got home the old one wouldn't open.
So we spent the this afternoon replacing the lock.

Ric

Balotesti, Romania(Zone 5a)

Ric, that was ODD! I hope you're feeling better soon.
Celia, that Monty is such a cutie!
It's been raining since last night when we had a strong storm. The wind is still blowing, but not that hard. Temps have dropped almost 10 degrees C and now it's 59. Tonight it's going to be 42...brrrr!
One of th epups died yesterday after being sick for 2 days. I gave him antibiotics , but I guess he had a virus of some sort which killed him...makes me so sad and helpless and mad I couldn't do more for him!
Adina

Peterstown, WV(Zone 6a)

Ric, That sounds like an awfully painful rash! Glad that it's getting better! Your GH is going to be so neat! :D Please be careful up there on the roof, tho.
Pepper, I hope you got your Mums situated! I have to do some planting this week end, too. The wind can really do a number on things.
Mau, Miss Lottie looks Very Young for 90! She looks younger than my MIL, who is 80! Ohhh, to be so well 'preserved'! :D And that is a really good pic of Buddy. :)
Celia! LOL! Cats are so funny! But I guess we all know that! :D
Joanna, Looks as if winter is there! for you! :-O You just skipped fall & went right to winter!
Kelli! Yay! Glad things won't be so hot! :D Do that happy dance! :D

Hello!!!

The conference went wonderful, they all said it was the best conference they've had in years and Jeff my boss made it a point to tell everyone that I did it all by myself with no help YAY!!!

I just got in from working outside. I pulled a muscle yesterday, that muscle on the right side inside the ribs. Just as long as I keep it limber I think it'll be alright.

What a sweet Monty Celia!!

Adina I'm sorry about the pup too. Sometimes you just can't do anymore, just like a human when they get an infection or cancer or aneurysm whatever, sometimes there's just nothing you can do. :(

Dave wants to go to Bismarck when he gets off work for a bbq something or other. He better be home from work by 5 because Bismarck is an hour away and it's over at 9.

They're calling for it to stay below 70F for the next couple of days. I've got to admit that I'll believe it when I see it.

Today we had a day of fun in Santa Barbara. This is a small shark the the Sea Center aquarium. A girl there would lift it up to the surface of the water so you could touch it. It felt rough and rubbery.

Now, Kelli. You've made me hungry for fish. LOL

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

High 50s now with a small breeze.

Had a RU in Parkville, MO today at one of their parks. It was cold and windy and we all thought we were dying. LOL!! We almost left the park though because there was a bike race going on and it took up the whole park. We couldn't get in with our vehicles to unload and we had too much stuff to walk the long distance from the parking lot to the gazebo we rented. When we decided to go somewhere else the 2 guys in charge of the race came by and offered to help unload everything for us with their utility truck (gator if you know it better by that name). We gladly accepted their help and he made many trips from the shelter we started out in to gazebo then from vehicles to gazebo. Very nice guys. Not very often I run into people who go out of their way like that to really help others.

All in all it turned out to be a fun but cold day. Even with 3 shirts and a coat on most of us were cold. LOL.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Pepper still an RU is an RU! Even in the cold.
Sounds like you had a good if very cold time.

Adina sorry to hear about the Puppy (((HUGS)))

Chrissy I agree CONGRATULATIONS!

Keeli I love the fish shots!
And SB is one of our favorite cities.
If we win the Lottery here I'm moving you all there!
Oh wait it's only 120 Million.... so..... I'll move first and you each get a night in a Hotel there...LOL!

Joanna that's a VERY nice shot!

Monty as always Hamming it up!
Does he ever take a bad pic Celia?

Cool and sunny here but windy. Well at least in Dayton it was.
The new door is in but now we need tyo do some drywall work.
The plaster at my SIL's is crumbing off the wall.

Oh well.

Thank you for your words, I'm feeling much better now and it seems no other dog shows any sickness for now. His brother is well too , thank God! Some of my youngest dogs were sick too when they were puppies , but I managed to save them...it's just so frustrating when one dies!
Ric, your niece is so beautiful! How old is she?
Kelli, the shark looks cute so small...though not so cute when he will grow!LOL Great pics, love the starfish too!
Crissy, congratulations for the good conference!
Celia, aweeeeeee to such a cute face!
