Container Soil

Mankato, MN(Zone 4a)

I'm not sure where to put this so I'll try here first. I have a few container gardens with bagged soiless mixes as the soil. Would it hurt to add this soil to my compost pile when I empty them this fall? In the past I've dug some of it into the ground...But I am wondring if it is a good idea.

Yes, add it to the compost.

I agree. That's where all of my spent container soil goes.

Ginj - yes you can add this to the compost pile. Personally, I reuse my potting mix from year to year (providing there has been no diseases in the plants that were in it). I just put it into my garden cart, add more soil mix, fertilizer, and any amendments and put it back into my pots.

Thanks everyone. I have re-used some in the past putting in new stuff & adding fertilizer. But I like the idea of adding it to my compost.
