Since I've renewed my interest in a few new clematis, I thought I would share my visit last year, along with two other DG members, Zuzu & begoniacrazi, of the Chalk Hill nursery just before it closed. It was May and they were past peak in the Mary Toomey gardens but there were several beauties blooming in the greenhouses.
Chalk Hill Revisted
Sue, how is Actic Queen doing for you? I have that one, but it has been a very, very slow starter. I just got Teshio from Koi, hope it gets to look like the one in your photo. Thanks for the tour!
Very nice tour and great photos as usual, Sue.
I have it in a big pot and it got all lush with fast new growth and suddenly wilted and turned black. I cut it all back and am waiting for signs of new growth. Not sure if it was because it not getting the water or care while i was gone on vacation or if it was that wilt problem. (great article in today's newsletter by the way! http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2615/)
I read not to give up on them though so will wait a while to see if there is new growth before tossing and maybe trying again.
That was so much fun that day, Sue.
We had no clue the place was going to close shortly after our visit or I would have bought many more than I did. I later ordered about a dozen from the closing sale, but I only received two of them.
That looks like a great place. It's too bad they had to close. Is there any chance that they'll reopen? I assume it was a financial problem?
I don't think I ever officially heard the reason but that seems to be the way of many nurseries these past couple of years.
Sue your noid looks a lot like Alionushka to me.
I agree with Diana. It looks like Alionushka to me too.
Oh great, thanks to both of you, I am able to label that one, I figured someone would recognize it.
Sue great pictures. I really miss being able to buy from ChalkHill. They had such a great variety!
