Magnolia Tree trimmed by contractor

Dalton, GA(Zone 7b)

A contractor just cut all the branches off my Magnolia tree on the northeast side of the tree up about 14 feet. Does anyone know if it will "put out" and grow new branches - or do all the branches have to be taken off all round the tree up to the 14 ft to make it even???? I am just sick as I had talked to the contractor and he knew what trees to take down and was told he was not to cut the magnolia.
Thank you! Oh yes - I am in Dalton.

just saw your post.. I'm not sure, but magnolias are hardy... I am so sorry, I know you love your trees...Will hope it comes back for you.

I have never seen a magnolia grandafolia hurt from "contractor trimming". Mike

I doubt it will put out new limbs where it was cut. It will probably survive but it may stay "ugly" for quite a long time. Fourteen feet is quite a lot of trimming.
