My poor cannas have been severely neglected this summer. They have had major problems with leaf rollers. How low can I cut them back at this point?
How low can I cut cannas?
You can cut them back to a couple of inches above the ground as long as they are getting watered regularly. And unless Slidell has become a desert since I was there last, you get plenty of rain to water them enough. You probably have some new growth and cutting them back will encourage more of that. When they grow back keep a little liquid Sevin around to spray them for leaf rollers and snails. I also feed mine twice a year with 15-15-15 prills. (I probably don't need to do that as they seem to proliferate more than I need them to.)
