ID this Madagascar Plant

I am stuck. IS it in the begonia family?

WOW! Many thanks for that. I think you are right. Although Beefsteak Plant is also used to refer to Perillas ( Japanese mint). I think this is an Amaranth

Looks like Iresine herbstii 'Acuminata', Painted Bloodleaf.

Just curious, how on earth did you get this plant??? you live in Washington DC, which is really far from Madagascar! i live in mozambique, which is right across from madagascar. all that separates us is the Mozambique Channel.
i haven't seen this plant before, quite pretty though.

Iresine herbstii is a native of Brazil.

Oh, the thread name said Madagascar plant. but it doesn't look like too a fragile plant, is it hardy? its probably now in a number of other countries other than brazil.

It's a very popular house and garden plant all over the planet.

I got this in Southern Madagascar. I have never seen it in the US before.

It's commonly sold here in Virginia and other state's as well.
