Yes, I'm still smiling. I've named mama "Checkers". Now I need a name for the baby.

BTW, do you have hummers year round where you live?

SW, we don't have them year round, I'm sad to say. We stop putting out the feeder about mid-Oct. Ours stop feeding around mid-Sept. but we keep it up for the migrating birds.

Here is Tuxedo on the old feeder. You can see his white shirt and "tails".

Quite dapper, isn't he kwan?
I never really thought much about the hummers until this last year, just took the lil ones for granted. I know you all are kinda bored with the flying missiles, but hang with me for a few more posts, and all will be explained.
Morning of the 29th of August was greeted upon opening the gh door by this little one.

Back to the same spot over the banana.

And back again. Repeatedly!

Quick refueling stop.

Tired the little one out so she perched on the drip line.

A few minutes later she fed then perched again. I went about my business, and later in the day caught this fellow up above on the power cord. He's hot and he is in the path of the fan, and he is panting. He is also smaller than he appears.

Finally got this photo. Well worth the wait. : - )

A second later one had flown away. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Here is the other one at the feeder.

They took turns feeding and perching for awhile.

Okay, I'm thinking that this little newcomers were recently hatched out in the gh. I have no proof except the abnormal behavior I noted, but they are still hanging around inside the gh. I'm not positive, but I think that Sweetie Pie may be the Mom.
Pretty sure Mom, is calling her kids here! : - )

What!? Their beaks are shut, and they are listening!

But MOM! I don't want to come in yet!

Mom made them return to the nest, and the patrolling the gh began again. The next day, one flew right in my face for invading their space. I did my chores, and later on in the morning of the 30th I got this photo.

Yup, and I've been trying for days to find the time to share the good news! : - )
The patrolling activity continued all day long on the 30th. This was the day when the King Bird was spotted. All the smaller birds were scared and in hiding.
This next photo shows that on the 31st, I was greeted upon opening the gh doors by this cheeky fellow!

This one is perched on the cord.

This one was brave and ventured outside the greenhouse shown on the bottom of the photo.

Silly bird landed on the wire right over my head. I love telephoto!

This is not Sweetie Pie, her under chin markings are more circular. Must be one of her kids. : - )

Now it is calling for Mama.

I think s/he heard Mom!

I said, I'm coming, Mom!

The other hummer is perched inside the gh, waiting.

Meanwhile the other baby still is perched over my head.

Love his little face and how intently he's listening. I must have made a noise and he's seeing me now.

Now he is voicing his objection to my presence.

What was that?

I know I heard something!

Mom, where are you?

He got scared and flew back into the gh. This was the day we spotted the Western King Bird.

I'm not quite sure who this one is because I can't see the marking closely.
