Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 90s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
We are abnormally cool too this morning. I'm not complaining LOL! First day of school...Haaaaahaaaaaaa!!!!
August - What's happening in your garden? Part 4
Celia: love that last pic on the previous thread--nice patterns there!
Sharon: our schools started last Wed. (the 19th). We've been cooler than normal, too, and I'm not complaining either! LOL
Ric: Oh, wow, a slug resistant hosta--hooray! I guess my Illustris and other EE's have done so well even though they are not in water is because they are all covered with several inches of mulch which helps to keep the moisture in. Plus they are hardy down here so we don't have to bring them inside in the winter. :o))
The weather channel says our high today will be in the mid-80's with winds E at 5-10 mph. Currently sunny and 68F--very nice!
Ric: here are the two Big Dippers and the mystery EE. Wonder why the one Big Dipper is so much bigger than the one on the right?
Oh, the poor little thing! I do hope he was okay.
It rained again last night and more rain is on the way for today.

My kids came from Italy on Friday. They've lost their ID cards and drivers license and have to make new ones. We went at the police station today and hopefully the ID card will be ready on Thursday...DD has a plane ticket for Monday...ugh!
Ric, the pond looks great and the brick alley too! Nice work! The garden looks amazing! When do you guys have time to take care of all those plants too?
Sharon, grrr, such a dark sky! Did you get any rain? Pea looks so sweet!
Kelli, great pics, really looks like Africa!
Joey, thanks for the tour! Dora is a beauty! How is JW?
Mau, poor hummer! Love the crepe myrtle flowers!
Celia, beautiful rose! I Have some Robins in my garde too, they're eating the sunflower seeds!LOL How was the eyes check-up?
Kiska, great view and yummy cake! We're doing that recipe here too. Save some for us !LOL
Here's the Robin leaning beneath the sunflower...too cute!
Adina
Adina, that bird is so cute! I love it!
Eye check-up went okay. I'm 85% better, which means I can get new glasses in about 3 months. Yea!
Hotter today than it needs to be

This is a pereskia flower. It's a cactus with leaves and almost a tree. The flowers are up way higher than my head. This is in my yard.
Another nice day. LOL
Windy here, but otherwise nice. 80 something.
Kelli I don't think I've ever known anyone growing this outside of an arboretum.
Cool!
Krohne has a nice grandifloria.
Is that what yours is?
Plant shot?
Cool but lizard frying sun today.
Much like AZ or NM in March.
We got the Mechanical/Bio Filter up and running about 2 PM.
By 3 we could see an improvement in water clarity.
Now at 8:30 the water's clear enough to see down about 16".
By morning we may even be able to see bottom in the deep end.
It will take days for full Mechanical filtration to finish.
Weeks for the Bio part to kick in but so far......
After we field test it for a few days we'll do the final finishing touches and hide the works.
No rush we want to make sure everything is in top shape.
Once the bacteria kick in the filter should not need to be touched for years.
Notice the 'falls' are now throwing twice as much water.
Ric
Mine is P. sacharosa. I'll try to get a picture of the complete plant tomorrow when the sun is in the right direction. We grew ours from seed that we liberated from an arboretum. Whoever lives here next is going to wonder what all of the strange plants are. I would think the plants will outlive us.
How neat!
I've got a shot from the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix but it wasn't in flower.
One of the gardens here in Anderson is now undergoing just that thing Kelli.
Clara is still hanging on to their 1 acre botanical treasure.
Her DH and Gardening companion Charlie passed away last Winter.
She's in her 70's and and has downscaled just a bit.
Everyone is hoping the place passes on to a Serious gardener.
Definitely not the kids passion.
Their collection is 4 decades old now......
Ric
Woke up at 2:50 AM by Thunder. Raining hard a few minutes later. Still raining now, with more to come.
Boys will be picking in the mud again today. Getting to be common.
Just now a severe thunderstorm warning coming over TV. I think it happened about 20 minutes ago!
Good morning!
My baby is off to school this morning! Mixed feelings about that to be honest. She was a bit nervous this morning because her best friend is in the other class. She was fine once in the class room since she knows most of the kids from pre-school. Still hoping she and her friend can be reunited later in the fall. So grateful for our wonderful school. Selma started 6th grade yesterday ... just can't believe how fast they're growing up! She's the same age I was when I moved to Florida ...... what a difference between 6th grade there and here.
Read all the posts and looked at all the photos - enjoyed them all but too many to comment on.
Bernie - so happy for you on your great crop and success at the market!
Adina - happy you got your photos back! What a scare!
Ric - the pond looks great! 63°F would be perfect! lol Especially now - not likely to see 60°F again until next year, summer is pretty much over here .... :-(
Kiska - love the hiking photos - looks like home! :-)
Well, feels like summer is over. It's windy, pouring rain earlier and around 50°F, high will probably be in the low 50's.
Hope you all have a great day!
Rann
Mau – I’m so glad the little hummer flew off. Must have knocked itself out on the wall.
Celia – beautiful backlit pic!
Adina – That terrible about the id’s and licenses. I hope no one steals the identities. We got some rain, but not a lot that day. We haven’t had any rain since. Cute Robins!
Kelli – Pretty flower!
Ric – You and Robyn could go into business building ponds! Excellent job!
Rann - They do grow up fast, huh? She’s adorable! Have a great day Hildur Eva and Selma Run!

Happy Birthday, Kelli!!! I'm going to add joy to those many years you were wished. We used to do that when we were kids. Someone on your BDay wishes you something and going around the room, people add things to the wish.
Beautiful flowers, scenery and others, everyone.
Rann, a gentle hug coming across to you. Letting them grow up is the hardest thing a parent can do.
Sharon, cute little frogs. Are they the noisy ones or just cute? Peanut's pic was very cute, too.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone!
Sharon, I hope you get the thyroid worked out. I have long suspected that I might have a thyroid problem but nothing ever comes out on tests.
Kiska, no hiking today. It's too hot.

Ric, no one is going to confuse my yard with a botanic garden. It's more like a dry riverbottom jungle. Here is picture of the pereskia. It is hard to get a good picture because it is behind the lemon tree and blends in with it. You might be able to make out some flowers near the top of the photo.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KELLI!
No rain today - still rideing on a plastic trash bag on the car seat.
Kelli – How is the birthday going?
Mau – The daisies are smiling!
Celia - They get noisier as the get bigger! But it’s ok…at least they stay cute (sorry Kiska!). Pretty bud!
Dyson – Be sure to put a towel on the car seat! Hope it dries out soon.

A tad bit hot today but not bad. Hit 87 with heat index of 94. Tomorrow it cools down again with the cool front.
sigh....cool front....
LOL. Move up here and you will have more cool fronts than you know what to do with.
We have baby!!!!!! Maxwell Christopher Elkington. She told me Ivan but they've changed it. 7lbs 13oz, 20". Healthy, happy, tired. Born Aug. 26th, 2009 at 7:30am-ish.
Yippeeee! Congratulations, Celia! :D
Yayyy!!! :-)
