kareoke, looks like Clematis viginiana or Virgin's Bower, a good climber and can be used for arches and fences. It is in full bloom here in NE Iowa.

Well I can tell you one thing it is covered in BEES, what do the seed pods look like because I should have plenty if the bees do their job right.

sweet autum is also called virgins bower

Go to this beautiful photo on: http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/potd/2009/07/clematis_virginiana.php
to see the seed head. The spiny vine is not part of the clematis but is serving as a support and it is called Green Briar.

I wish I could remember!!!LOL

Mine had somehow found it's way into my compost pile in a corner I don't pay to much attention to .. when I finally did take notice I was horrified! .. it had totally taken it over and was on it's way to climbing a fence and some pine trees! Luckily I caught it before it could make seeds .. I spent a morning pulling it all up, triple bagging it and dumping it in the trash! .. In my zone it's horribly invasive .. horribly and if you read the negatives about it on plant files, you'll find it's utterly impossible to get rid of once it's had a chance to make rhizomes. I trashed all of mine which I had growing up fence posts when I read them a few months back. I'm so glad I caught the one in the compost pile before it got huge. I'm thinking the lawn mower must have rolled over some when I had the bagger on it and that's how it got in the compost pile.

Mine is just beautiful, loaded with flowers and it is not going anywhere else but on the trellis, guess I will wait and see how the seed pods look when they get here *S*
