Star fruit questions

Fort Lauderdale, FL

Has anyone heard or knows for a fact that eating star fruit has adverse affects on people who are on heart medications? I hope not, my tree is loaded for the first time, I can't understand why everyone in florida doesn't grow a star fruit tree, gee's, they are $2.50 apiece in Publics!

There are a number of sites out there that do say it can interact with some medications--sounds like it's similar to grapefruit juice which is more widely known to cause problems. I've posted a few links below, but if you google it you'll turn up more. Really the best thing to do is talk to your doctor--even if it can have an effect, it could be that you'd need a huge quantity of them before it would cause a problem, so you might be able to eat a few without any risk. Or it may not interact with the specific drugs that you're taking, so your doctor is really the best person to advise you.

Starfruit is not good for diabetics to eat as the fruit contains an enzyme which inhibits a person's system to deal with oxalate. It can cause problems for the kidneys.

If you're not allowed to eat them, you could always set up a stand and sell them for $2 apiece--that way people can get them cheaper than the grocery store and you can make a little money! LOL

$2.00 is cheap! If you come to the farm and pick them, I'll give them to you for $1.00.

Metrosideros, you have to understand that at our local markets here in Florida they go for $2.50 apiece which I don't understand because the trees are so profilific, and seem to fruit year around.
