I need the collective wisdom of the NE forum! What do you think ate my bergenia?
I had two planted next to each other, under a black lace elderberry, fairly close to the base. One is gone completely (photo below) and another eaten. I have some other shots of new activity in nearby mulch.
Who is messing around?
Unrelated to the bergenia above (I think), any ideas on what eats milkweed?

Didn't think to suspect the groundhog!
Elsewhere someone mentioned a rabbit, as well as a skunk if there were grubs under the plant.
All good candidates. I'll keep an eye out for more evidence.
Thanks!
Boy, I've heard so many people complaining about groundhog damage this year. Seems to be the Year of the Groundhog and the Slug. Sorry about your plants!
I just went out there and checked that area again. I think the culprits were voles! There's now a tunnel leading from the area. Starting to find their clearly defined holes in a few places.
OK, snakes, where are you?? Get working!!
Ugh! Haven't had to deal with voles - luckily.
I misinterpreted the thread title. ^_^
Of course you did, Victor ;-)
Hee hee - thought you were taking a poll.
Voles ate many of my lily bulbs this winter----
