cool toad

Bella Vista, AR(Zone 6b)

While cleaning up the foundation area behind my house I found this cool toad. I may have taken out his hiding spot when I removed the concrete block. Hope not. There are still areas under my deck where he can keep cool and damp.

Does anyone venture a guess on the identity of this big guy?

I would start guessing with fowler's toad, but maybe american toad. Key distinctive is how many warts they have in their spots, and whether the belly is white or spotted. And the two hybridize, so could be something in between. Just a guess.

It looks happy enough, even minus the block. Toads like to feel like they are hidden, not just cool and dark. Maybe you can make it a little cave or something. Like a broken clay flower pot or terra cotta pipe, or just a pile of mid-sized rocks with some space. Even a butter tub with a door hole cut out.
