CLOSED: Ducks & a Goose
Hi Xeno,
#1 - Canada Goose
#2 - Farmyard duck (derived from Mallard)
#3 - Farmyard goose (probably derived from Chinese Goose - Greylag Goose hybrid)
#4 - Farmyard ducks (derived from Mallard, or Mallard - Muscovy Duck hybrids)
Resin
Thanks Resin.
I didn't see any entry pages for Farmyard hybrids of Ducks and Geese. I am assuming that they are not allowed in the BirdFiles. Is my assumption correct?
Xeno.
Yes your correct, they are not a true breed
Yep. If there was a PetFiles, they could go on that, but they're not wild birds so don't belong on BirdFiles ;-)

#3 is Roman and White Chinese goose
On #3: Well the one on the left sure does look like a White Chinese Goose:
Anser anser subsp. domesticus -OR- Anser cygnoides subsp. domesticus
http://www.cacklehatchery.com/chinesegoosepage.html
I guess since it isn't wild, that disqualifies it from the BirdFiles.
The goose on the right looks like A Roman Goose:
http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Geese/BRKRoman.html
But it says that "This small, chubby goose was probably developed in the Danube River Valley"
I guess this means that it is still not a "True Breed" and dosen't belong in BirdFiles?
Thanks.
Xeno.
Yep, still a domesticated bird, not a wild one
Maybe DG should set up a 'PetFiles' or similar, where various domesticated animals can be included - could be very useful. All the different dog and cat breeds, and all the various farm animals as well. A place one could look to learn e.g. the small differences between a Holstein cow and a Friesian cow, etc.
Resin
Maybe someday it'll happen.
AnimalFiles!
