A friend of mine asked me about "splitting" wisteria ends to stimulate them into growing into different directions and spur them to grow faster. Has anyone heard of such a thing? And if so, maybe that technique could be applied to other vines/climbers?
Thanks for any feedback, I appreciate it!
Wisteria question
I have to say I've never heard of anyone wanting to make it grow faster! LOL Usually they're struggling to control it! In all seriousness though I have not heard of that technique. Here's an article from Fine Gardening on pruning Wisteria: http://www.finegardening.com/how-to/articles/pruning-wisteria.aspx?nterms=74872
I've not heard of that one either .. I'm wondering if they mean cutting off the growing tips to make the side shoots grow.

Yeah, pretty crazy, wanting Wisteria to grow faster! Problem is, in Reno its hit-or-miss with any plant. Either it takes off or it stalls out- and with a short growing season its maddening to miss an entire summer growing window with a plant because before you blink the snow is on the horizon.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it!
I was just about to start a thread regarding pruning when I saw this post!
