Probably a stupid question

I have a new computer, as my hard drive on my old one was failing. Everything works fine, but when I boot up, the icons on the initial screen are about half the size they were on my old monitor. I managed to fix the appearance of most of the sites I visit (DG being the most common) and enlarge the type but that first screen is still small and hard to read. Any advice?? I already have enough wrinkles from squinting, I don't need more.
