I just picked up two... 1 quart plants on sale for $3.50. Does anyone grow this type? Describes it as a 6-9" purple flower... looks like a mix between a standard and pallida...
Prairie Giant
Is this another new one or just new to me? I will have to go it up now, 6-9inch flower, really, wow.
It wasn't labeled as a fancy new variety. Prior to the sale, they were only $8 or $9.
I frequent this nursery and they had these all season... but they never bloomed.. so who knows.
I found some info about this one...
Common Name: Giant Coneflower
Description: Huge flowers with narrow, pink petals spanning 6-9" on tall stalks. Beautiful, rich, dark green, basal leaves up to 24" long and 4 1/2" wide. Has been happy and long flowering in our Zone 4 garden for 10+ years.

They have a photo of it. It looks like a cross between Pupurea and Pallida, but I can't be certain of that.
